The program follows a co-plan, co-teach model, in which we work side-by-side with Nicaraguan teachers who have applied to work with a Volunteer. Over the course of two years, our Nicaraguan co-teachers observe and practice these techniques in action and when we leave, they’ll adopt the ones they felt were most valuable and effective for their classroom. Below are the counterparts Michaeala and I work with.

Created with the assistance of a previous Peace Corps Volunteer, the English Community Center is a local community center that seeks to build a bilingual Nueva Guinea by offering educational services for all community members to learn, practice, and enjoy English. Founded in 2014, Michaela works with the director and founder of the center to help manage day-to-day operations and provide support for her long-term vision. Like the center’s page on Facebook!
